Honky Tonk Lock And Key

Julian Austin/Stephen Robichaud

Well I remember a time
When I was drinking everyday
Trying to drown my sorrows
Thought I could wash my blues away
At paycheck time
I'd spend every dime
In every honky tonk bar
And I was driving in style
Every night with a smile
In the back of a police car

Now the bars where I did my drinkin'
There're now bars where I do my thinkin'
No bar room brawls no last calls
Ain't even got a jukebox with a country song
The bartenders here don't serve no beer
And the membership it sure ain't free
So what am I doing here
In this honky tonk lock and key

When the judge asked me
Son how do you plead
And don't try to blame it on the whiskey
Well I let him know right where to go
That's when he threw the book at me
I got thirty days for the hell I raised
Guess he didn't like my attitude
But for the shape I was in 'bout then
I had nothing to lose

Now the bars where I did my drinkin'
There're now bars where I do my thinkin'
No bar room brawls no last calls
Ain't even got a jukebox with a country song
The bartenders here don't serve no beer
And the membership it sure ain't free
So what am I doing here
In this honky tonk lock and key

Yeah
So what am I doing here
In this honky tonk lock and key
Man I gotta get out of here
They ain't even got a jukebox
